So RCA emailed and asked if I wanted to go to the Ben Kweller/Incubus show here in Raleigh next month. What a weird combo, I had no idea they were touring together.

On another note, I got in the car to go to work this morning and an old Nirvana tune was playing on the radio, which was pretty cool. Then next they played some old Weezer followed by Engine Down, an old Modest Mouse tune, and the Killers. The string of music was so good that I wanted to ride the wave of good music all the way to work so I called in and requested some Toadies. What song did they play? "Pressed Against the Sky". Beautiful. (9:26am)

Who needs posts from me when you have all this great comments action? The adventures of a shark hunter, Mason almost slipping you all the link to my new site, so much going on!

You know last weekend Leigh and I were walking down the steet after eating dinner at Porters and I saw a flier that said something about Far-Less. I took a look and saw they were playing in town that very night. WEIRD. I got to my cell phone and sure enough one of the band members had called me earlier in the day. It was a pleasent suprise.

What's in store for this weekend? Most likely going to the beach tomorrow with Leigh and family, coming back Saturday to see Franz Ferdinan (and possibly interview them - I know, I have been holding out on some of you) and then Sunday get down and dirty on some work. What about YOU? (that means post an answer). (5:24pm)

For some reason there were just way too many thoughts running trough my head...need to do this, need to email him, what about this, what are we going to do about that, etc. (6:33am)

So we had an awesome 3-day weekend and I as thinking that I would get tons of things done since I had 3 days to work with. So what did I do? Saturday I went and played some tennis with Leigh, watched some TV, saw Alien vs. Predator, watched some tennis on TV (I don't know why I am on a tennis kick all of a sudden), and then went and saw Far-Less play. Sunday I slept until around noon, got up and watched some TV, watched Shanghai Soccer, piddled around a little, and then grilled some food for Leigh and I. That takes me to Monday. Given that 2 days had already gone by and I had done absolutely nothing on my "To Do" list (see below), Monday I busted ass and got to it. I got almost everything done, save a couple items. All in all it was a pretty productive day, but you can see pretty easily what section of the list I stalled on.

So my good friend Robbie is moving tomorrow and I told him last week I would make the trek to Charlotte to help him this weekend, yet I called him today and bailed out. I am really trying to get over this sinus infection and plan to do a lot of sleeping this weekend to clear it out. Despite him assuring me it is OK, I feel really bad about it and am still thinking about getting up and going in the morning.

I don't like telling people (especially friends) I am going to do something and then not coming through. It's something my Dad actually instilled in me growing up. (11:12pm)

What's up with blog comment spammers? When I look at my comment list, I have about 300 comments saying something about some online poker site. Basically they do it so their site will be linked by hundreds of other web pages, thus creating a very high rank in Google searches. It's crap though.

I wonder if they pay some guy to sit there and comment on everything or if they have some automated Greymatter buster that goes in and does it. What a boring job, I hope it doesn't pay well. (2:26pm)

I decided to sign up for some massive webspace (something like 300GB of space and 40GB of transfer) and host scottharkey.com on it. I bought the domain a long time ago to make sure one of the many other me's (how great is it that the first result is the beard contest!) didn't get it. I don't really know what I am going to use it for, other than hosting some files to need to pass around, or maybe as the host for some media files I hope to get into an online player of sorts. (11:59am)

Friday - 08.20.04

Here's a little tidbit about me, I am an extreme introvert. Sure, I am nice to people when talking to them, and I seem to be able to present well in front of people, but I don't enjoy it at all. When I am placed in social situations I tend to stick to the people I know and don't usually venture out to talk to other, new people. I don't enjoy chatting with new people, I much prefer talking with my close friends. And I don't enjoy talking just to talk. If there are things to be said then great, but I don't like social chit chatting without a point unless with a close friend.

However, as I have spent the last year or two constantly being put in situations through school where I am in group of people where I don't know anyone, I am finding that I am starting to open up a little bit. When I took my first class in the MBA program (a Change Management class), I sat down the first day and the guy beside me immediately leaned over and introduced himself and started talking to me. From the paragraph above, you should understand that this didn't interest me at all. However, now I find when I go sit down in a new class, the first thing I do is start talking to the person beside me.

Why? I don't know, I guess I have just learned to become more social. Combine my time in these types of situations at school with the increasing success of Silent Uproar, which has created a need to reach out and interact with some pretty 'important' people, and my work environment where things I say are respected and listened to, and you get a new and improved Scott...or at least a different Scott. (1:42pm)

I was reading an article in Men's Health and it was talking about stress and the stress level in different cities, basically giving each city a grade. Not surprisingly Charlotte got a C, but what surprised me is Raleigh got an A+.

You know when your write down the pros and cons of moving back to Charlotte one day down the road, it doesn't really look like a good decision. I mean thee are so big reason to do it, but there are about 50 more smaller reasons to stay around here. Maybe we will skip Charlotte and move straight to Wilmington, which is were I think we both would love to end up. We are definitely beach people and I love that city. (7:26pm)

I had a great weekend. Robbie and Amy came up and we took off to the beach with my other friends Scott and Suzanne. Good times followed including...getting beat in a soccer match on the beach by a guy and his 11 year old daughter, getting blisters on my feet as a result, spending a lot of time swiming in the warm Atlantic water, and eating some good local seafood.

In other news, this is a great quote from an article about how one of the Polyphonic Spree guys' luggage caused some problems at the Dallas/Fort Worth airport.

"I had Taco Bell in my hand, and all of a sudden, these cars block me in my driveway. They've all got tinted windows, 'X-Files' style," he said. "Then here comes one guy with a bulletproof vest on, another with a gun showing. It was a very harrowing day." (5:22pm)

Is Dave Chappelle $50 million funny?

Dave Chappelle has signed a deal with Comedy Central that will ensure the return of Chappelle's Show to the network for two more seasons. According to CNN, sources familiar with the deal put it somewhere in the $50 million range. The deal will also give Chappelle a "hefty chunk" of the flourishing DVD sales of Chappelle's Show, which has already sold 1.7 million copies of the first-season alone. That astonishing figure makes it the highest-selling TV-related DVD of the year.  (7:00am)

There has been some interesting car craziness around me lately. Last Thursday when coming home from class I watched a SUV come onto the interstate right beside me and proceed to whip the wheel too fast and then flip over. All right beside me as I was cruising along at 70mph.

Then the very next day I was going home from work and I passed a SUV that had run into another car and then rolled over.

Then today coming home on the interstate the car in front of me blows a tire and starts weaving all over the place before finally making it off the road. (10:33pm)

Whenever I talk to someone at work and they find out I am in school, they are always like, "oh, computer school must be tough." There is not one thing I do in my job involving computers that I ever learned in school. People can't seem to fathom that knowing how to work with computers is something you can learn just by using them and not being afraid to try things, you don't have to go to school for it. When people have problems they just ask for it to be fixed, they don't take the time to try and figure out why it is a problem, or maybe even discover that THEY are the problem. Just a rant, but come on people. (5:25pm)

Same company, another memo:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We have again been working on balancing the temperature and air flow on the 7th floor. On Tuesday morning (7/27) two flags will be placed on your desk - red for hot and blue for cold. Please place the flag that represents the temperature at your desk somewhere visible on your desk. Representatives from the cooling contractors will be on-site throughout the day to record your reading. If the temperature changes throughout the day, please change the flags accordingly. Hopefully, this will give them the information needed to ensure we resolve the cooling issue. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me. Thanks for your cooperation and patience during this test period.

Wednesday - 07.21.04

We got this memo today at work:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our brand is still relatively new, and we want to share with you where we stand today and communicate some specific issues and responsibilities we are facing at this stage of brand development.

As any new brand evolves, both internally and externally, it takes on the characteristics and even emotions of its owners. We are all very proud of it. At the same time, employees sometimes feel compelled to take liberties with our logo, interpreting it for a particular use or function. This most often happens innocently without employees consciously thinking about how alterations can dilute or harm our brand equity.

Over the past few months, there have been several incidents in which our brandmark (logo) has been misused or misrepresented. While we want to be careful not to suppress creativity and pride at the division, community or program levels, we must actively communicate and govern the approved standards and guidelines for our brand. The company has invested significant time and monetary resources to develop a logo, a brand architecture and a set of brand identity guidelines.

We enjoy being part of this company. Our performance continues to outpace our goals. Therefore, each of us is accountable for our brand's future. As ambassadors for the brand, all employees must understand and embrace our individual and collective brand responsibilities. The equity in our logo, typography, imagery and voice are extremely valuable assets that warrant protection.

To protect this valuable asset, Corporate Marketing will follow up on reported incidents of logo misuse. Employees and their direct managers will be contacted and encouraged to follow the guidelines for proper use of the brand. All offenses will be shared with Human Resources on a regular basis, and corrective action may be taken for repeat offenses, consistent with xxxx's corrective action policy.

We are asking for your understanding and help in actively protecting the brand by educating employees, partners and external partners about the brand and how to use our logo appropriately.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess they caught me drawing devil horns on the logo and sending it to my friends. I better be more careful, I don't want to face "corrective action". (3:51pm)

I'm not doing so good about getting back on track. Work isn't too bad since I got a ton of stuff done before I left, but the SU mailbox is overflowing, SU Records has some serious stuff going on (more details very soon) and I just got my bags unpacked tonight.

Tomorrow night Leigh and I are heading to Chapel Hill to see Far-Less play. It has been a long time since she got to see them and those guys have a lot going on now too (more details on that coming soon too).

Is everyone as busy as me? I mean to other people have time to just hang out and not have to worry about getting a list of 50 things done? Sometimes I wonder if I could handle not having anything to do...I think I would get too restless and seek new things. Who knows, I certainly don't have to worry about lack of things to do for a good little while. (11:56pm)

Today is the last day of work before we leave for Arbuba for a week. It is amazing how much you get done in a short period of time when you are getting ready to go out of town. It's like all of a sudden people can't wait a week for things so you have to do it all before you leave. Crazy I tell you.

I also just noticed I have been posting on this here site pretty consistently lately. Almost every day for two weeks, not bad. Which brings me to another point. While some people have cool sites that look neat and have tons of great links and dialogue (Ex, yewknee), and some sites are fun to read just because the posts are really funny (Ex. Deuce), I see my site as more of a personal thing. I made the site so family and friends could keep up with what Leigh and (mostly) I are doing. We stay so busy that I don't really talk to my friends or family that much, and I figured this was a good way to let them know all sorts of things about me and what I think about things, without having to physically tell each person. That is the main reason I pulled the link to this site off of Silent Uproar, I don't necessarily want the random person visiting. So anyway, sorry if it is boring to read, but if it's boring, it's just because I'm boring, I am not trying to make some cool web destination here (although a redesign would be nice), just sharing my thoughts with friends. (7:30am)

Sunday - 07.04.04

Is Sam Raimi not the most brilliant director? I mean I am not saying Spider Man 2 is super duper amazing (although I did enjoy it quite a bit), but it is exactly what the movie watching America wants. Good action, a love story, nice cinematography, a hero, a happy ending, just everything that makes a good Blockbuster. So you take this amazing director who starts out making cool films like the Evil Dead movies and Army of Darkness and you pay him a ton of money to make blockbusters. What does he do? Delivers them while still slipping in enough of his trademark camera work and shot re-creations (the awesome chainsaw shots - exact shots from Army of Darkness, the woman being dragged across the floor clawing - trademark Evil Dead, etc). I just think he's brilliant.

So how long do you think Raimi and crew will continue to make Spiderman movies? I mean they make everyone tons of money, and I am sure they are fun, but everyone wants to move on after a while. Could someone else direct a Spiderman movie without taking it the way of Batman? If Tobey is out then could it ever continue? Would America accept someone else as Spiderman? All good questions... (9:51am)

So last night Leigh and I were walking into Moe's to get some burritos and this little girl comes out smiling really big at me. This isn't really all that unusual because for some reason kids seem to have this weird fascination with Leigh and I both, but what was weird is she walked right up to me and grabbed my wrist. I kinda looked at her and smiled and she just kept grinning until her Mom walked up and pulled her hand away. It was just odd. The girl was probably 3 or 4 too, so it wasn't like she just didn't now better.

I just struck me as weird, so I thought I'd share. (9:01pm)
