And I'm back! I figured I better post before too much trash talking happens in the comments.

I had a great time, with a week of awesome snowboarding with my step-sisters (Ami & Audrey), Mark, Arvin, Mom and step-dad Virgil. I really enjoyed riding around with my sister Ami all week because the more we talked, the more I found that we have in common. Plus, we are pretty even as far as skill level and it made it fun to ride (and hike) all over the mountain with her. Thanks to her, (she is a vegan) the folks also made an effort to dine at places that had things she could eat. As a result, I ended up eating pretty healthy all week, which is sometimes hard while on vacation.

After spending most of the week in Tahoe, I spent a couple days with Ryan and Malisa in Arizona. I can’t say enough good things about the couple, and they treated me to record stores, comfy couches, home grilled fajitas, a Goldfinger show, and a late night talk with Malisa (and her brother) that was really cool. It still amazes me that I met this guy through a beard contest, but however it happened I am better off by knowing him and his lovely wife.

The odd/cool thing about this vacation is it was the first one I can remember where I was really able to detach from all the craziness going on in my life. Despite trying to milk the Internet connection daily to check my work email, I never really thought about work, or SU, or school, or anything from home other than Leigh. I was able to completely chill out and just have a really good time. Sounds simple, but was something new for me, and I really enjoyed it. So thanks to Mom, Virgil, Ami, Audrey, Mark, Arvin, Ryan, and Malisa for making it such a great week. (5:18pm)

Well the internet wasn't very available while I was on vacation, which is probably for the best, so I am just now making it back online. More details of the week later, but for now just wanted to say I am home, the last week was amazing, and thanks ot everyone involved. (7:44am)

Holy Shit!

Last week was clearly the bussiest, most stressed out, and just general sucky week I have had in a long time if not ever. It is unbelievable how everything I am involved in all of a sudden reached its peak and unleashed on me in one week.

However, the good news is I am getting ready to go get on a plane (and another plane and another plane...until I finally get to California) to have fun for a little over a week. Sure I still have to do some month-end reporting while on the plane, sure I still have over 250 emails to reply to, but mid-terms are over (and I eaked out a 93 on a test I didn't really study for until driving to class), and more importantly the week is over.

So who knows when I will be back on here. If wi-fi is alive and well in Lake Tahoe, then I am sure I will be back frequently. After all, I turn 25 next week, and I can't let Robozo miss that milestone, right? (5:27am)

I guess I brough some germs back with me from Birmingham because I feel like absolute crap. I have been trying to sleep it off by sleeping 10-11 hours a night this weekend, but it seems to have already turned into a sinus infection.  (11:27am)

Back in action and taking names. I don’t know what’s in store for this weekend. I signed up for Netflix last week because I was required to do the free trial for one of my classes, so I have some movies I can watch. I also have the usual paper or two to write, some database homework, and cookies to bake. (OK, I lied about that last one).

You know I used to really enjoy flying and I thought that airplanes were amazing. I just liked being in different places and the airport experience, etc. However, it lost its entire luster since I have been flying so much recently. Now it is just a day of crappy expensive food, cramped seats, and endless magazine purchases. But, it’s a life. I will never being in a job where I have to travel a lot though, hotel life gets old way too fast. (4:48pm)

I am in Birmingham right now for work, and it is pretty boring here. I flew in at about noon today and am leaving tomorrow morning, so it is a ery short trip. But I do get free breakfast, free dinner, free lunch, and all the jumping on the bed I can handle!!!

On another note, it is amazing that I can sit here on the bed, jam to some good music, and clean up all my email from the day with no wires at all, just some nice Apple devices plugged into the free ethernet. Technology rocks.

Yes, I am a dork. (1:25am)

Did you miss me? Don't lie, I can read your mind.

I went home this weekend to see my Dad for his birthday since I will be out of town for the actual day, as well as to see my mom and step-dad. It was nice to see everyone, but kinda shot the weekend as far as getting stuff done. I had yesterday off, but ended up spending most of the day at the Saturn dealership getting some battery acid leak fixed on my car. Sucks because it somehow made it through a loophole in the two different warranties I have and ended up costing me a couple hundred dollars.

This week is shaping up to be a busy one with last minute notice of a trip to Birmingham tomorrow and Wednesday. We are only going to be there half a day, but the powers that be said I need to go, so I am going. (12:28pm)

Sorry I let some people down with the no second post yesterday (Scottie P, no one cares but you), but life got in the way.

I am trying to figure out when to go home to see my Dad for his birthday. I am running out of time and I will be out of town the weekends around his actual birthday. My calendar for March and April are getting out of hand.

There is tons of new music coming at me these days. Kasabian, The Bravery, Doves, Neon, The Decembrists, M. Ward, and much much more are all sitting here waiting for me to listen to them. Not to mention me recently picking up the latest albums from The Wrens, Loretta Lynn, Detachment Kit, Turing Machine, M83, Golden Republic, Louis XIV, etc, etc. So much! (1:25pm)

So much to say, so little time.

I ran 10 miles this past Saturday. It was a challenge and it hurt at times, but I only slowed to a walk twice to drink some water, and I did it in about 1.5 hours. Not the greatest, but let's see you run 10 miles.

Did anyone watch the Grammy's? I discovered that awards shown are best when you TiVo them and then watch it the next day. You can fast forward through all the boring awards, and crappy performances and cut to the good stuff. Speaking of which, I really enjoyed seeing Green Day playing "American Idiot". For the band to be going at it strong for 15 years and then get such success from a song that pokes fun at the so many things that are wrong with the US right now, is great.

There were some other cool winners too like the Garden State Soundtrack, John Stewart, Loretta Lynn, Ozomatli, Jay-Z for "99 Problems", Basement Jaxx, and even Bill Clinton got in on the action.

More later today. (12:21pm)

I have to say, this weekend was one of the best weekends Leigh and I have had in a while. Friday we just went low key and ate some dinner at a deli and watched a movie at home. Saturday we went and got massages I had arranged and then ate a really nice dinner. Then Sunday, we hung out all day and did silly stuff around the house. So other than the massages and dinner Saturday, we didn't do anything really cool, but we had some really great time just hanging out together and it was nice. Hooray for wives! (8:24am)

I just had to call Germany to interview a band from Brooklyn, which is kinda weird. I had to call the hotel (who answered the phone in German) and somehow get across that I wanted to be connected to Mr. Green's room. Interview went well though, despite writing the questions 15 minutes before making the call.

I got home at about 3am last night, after driving to Greensboro to pick up some Far-Less CDs. The guys left late and then took an hour longer than they thought to get there, so I was left with hours to kill in Greensboro. So I: drove around the closed mall, went to Borders and read magazines until they closed, drove around UNCG, washed my car, got harassed at a gas station, found another cooler gas station dubbed “The Best Gas Station in the World (or maybe just Greensboro)”, got some free coffee there and a banana, drove around some more, saw a band practicing that just got signed to Drive-Thru Records the day before, and drove around. Oddly, a lot of things happened to make passing the time easier. (1:24pm)

I did get a lot done this weekend, but not nearly enough. Such is life. I think I am going to need to start getting up around 5am. I go to bed around 11, so that isn't too bad, but still sounds awful to my internal clock that says I am NOT a morning person. Getting home at 9:30pm from work/school just isn't leaving enough time to get things done.

Speaking of work, I love my desk at work. We all have cubes here (surprise, surprise), but I am in a windowed corner so I really only have one cube wall, two floor to ceiling window walls, and then the open side. It is just nice and quiet back here and I am not out in the open like I used to be, so people don't stop and bug me. Then add the fact that I decided about 6 months ago to get rid of all the "standard" office decorations like Star Awards, Quality Grams, Certificates, calendars, etc and cover my wall(s) with band posters, post cards, and a section of band buttons, and you have one happy little work home. I mean I have a Dizzee Rascal postcard that has the tag line "Fuck Da Glitz and Glamma on it"! …and all under the watchful eye of the big corporation.

Hey, you gotta rebel somehow. (12:13pm)

Friday - 02.04.05

This weekend is going to have to be a "get massive amounts of things done" weekend. I need to get caught up on a bunch of school stuff, SU stuff, etc, etc. How many times can I talk about the same things before you get bored with it?

I think I am going to plan something nice for Leigh and I do to for Valentine's Day...something different, but cool. Really it will be nice to just spend some time with her. Speaking of Leigh, she has gotten wind of a Vet Hospital that is interested in hiring someone. We hope that works out for the best and gets settled soon. It will be nice for her to have a job squared away and ready to move into the next phase of things.

We have also talked about where we are going to live and our house, etc. I think we have decided we are going to stay in Raleigh for a little while and that brings up the question of do we stay in our current house or not. Our current house is fine, but we both really want more room outside. A proper yard and some distance from neighbors, etc. It’s tough coming from growing up in the country with 100s of acres of land, to being in a town home where we have a neighbor on one wall and no real yard. Then again, if we don’t stay in Raleigh very long it doesn’t make sense to move into a new house now. Stay tuned… (2:22pm)

There are at least four things going on right now that should have a full person dedicated to them, not a 1/10 of a person:

Feersum Ennjin Release: Trying to coordinate the massive campaign we are doing around the record is quite interesting. Radio promo, internet marketing, print marketing, multiple national distributors, contacting specific stores, promo materials, merchant account, merchandising, the list goes on and on.

School: I'm in the last semester of getting my MBA and school has never been busier or more demanding. Projects, group assignment, papers, cases, presentations, homework, message board posting, etc, etc.

Work: This one is probably worse just because of the insane amount of things going on. My job has become too much work for one person and added on that is requests for me to travel to Birmingham, month-end reporting insanity, hiring new staff, testing of the merger data conversion, etc, etc.

SilentUproar.com: I have a lot of plans for where this site needs to go this year in order to keep growing, and now it is just about finding time to do it all. I really feel that part of our problem is finding some new people to work on the site. Not that the people we have are bad, but we need more people who are dedicated and can help the site grow. (11:29am)

If you made it through that last post, thanks for reading. It ended up much longer than I intended. I guess it just goes to show how much fun I had that weekend.

Today marks the release of the latest release from Silent Uproar Records, Feersum Ennjin. This is a huge deal for us and I am really proud of all the work Robbie, Michael, Paul, and I have put into getting this release out there. Now, do me a favor. If you read this website and care at all about me or what we are doing, please head over here and buy the record. I realize everyone won’t like it, but think of it as a $7 donation to the cause and rest easy knowing you did your part.

Today is when it all begins. (1:49pm)

Monday - 01.31.05

Descriptions of this weekend's events are starting to pop online and I suppose I will chime in with my own run down (i.e. The Most Detailed Weekend Description Ever™)....

Thursday: I got up at 5:30am to continue working on things from the night before and to try and pack stuff so I could leave from work. I then went to work and had an absolutely crazy morning finally being able to leave around 12:30. After running some quick errands (and getting some Bojangles) I got on the road and headed towards Charlotte. Throughout the drive I had conversations with ...Trail of Dead's manager because we were supposed to have an interview earlier in the day. The interview eventually went down about 30 minutes before I arrived in Charlotte and it all worked out well.

Once in Charlotte, Jeremy C, Jeremy D, Hala and I all piled in JC's car and headed to Asheville. In Asheville, we headed to Grant’s where Michelle came by for a quick visit. We then all went over to Barley’s for some food and to meet up with Michael, Ryan, and Mason. Food and beer were consumed and we walked over to the Orange Peel to see the Arcade Fire show.

After standing in the cold for a while, we made it into the venue and were pleasantly surprised by the one man show of Final Fantasy…violin playing singer-songwriter who would play parts and then loop layers and layers on top of each other. Amazing. Next up was Arcade Fire, and I don’t think anything else needs to be said about how amazing this band is…great songs, great stage presence, all around great show. I think the only problem was apparently I consumed a little too much alcohol while at the show. We all decided to stay in town for the night so we found a hotel and piled into two rooms for a couple hours of sleep.

Friday: We got up, checked out of the hotel, and jumped on the road towards Charlotte. I was riding with Michael so we could talk about all the random things that are nice to talk about in person rather than over email, and I think he may have regretted that later. After stopping at Arby’s to get some food, I pretty much felt like crap, so I decided to buy some Pepto Bismol. I got in the car, drank it down, and within 45 seconds, threw up in the Arby’s bag I had brought along with me in case worse came to worse. Fortunately we were right at a rest stop, so we stopped, I got out and disposed of the foul evidence of the awesome night before, and we moved on. I would later be told that this was the most elegant and smooth vomiting ever.

We arrived in Charlotte and headed back to JD’s house where we sat around watching Stranger’s With Candy episodes and trying to think of something to do. Since I hadn’t really eaten, Jeremy, Mason, Ryan, and I went to Bojangles and got some food before heading to a thrift store to find JD some house warming gifts for his new place. I found him a plunger (who doesn’t need a plunger?) and a porcelain cow’s head thing for Ryan to give him. We headed back to JD’s, gave him the gifts, met up with Sarah, and then tried to find something to do again. That night we went to get some food at Lupie’s where Robbie joined the gang and we then made it over to Park Lanes for some crazy bowling action. At this point Rachel also showed up and got her bowl on with the rest of the gang. Bowling was followed by a trip down the street to the Bucket Shop, which was a small karaoke bar. While I thought it was going to be lame at first, the alcohol consumption by the rest of the gang (I wasn’t going to push my luck two nights in a row) made this one crazy night. Highlights were definitely the Soundgarden master himself Sco-bee, Michael and Sarah doing and amazingly drunk rendition of “Reo” (and capturing it on video), the guys running the bar dry of Jack Daniels, and the whole group doing a great rendition of “Say It Ain’t So” to close out the bar. After leaving the bar, Mason decided he needed to use the bathroom despite the fact that we were in our cars already (all sober drivers folks), and I watched him get in Robbie’s car instead of ours. Since the people with me didn’t know this small fact, I pretended that I had left Mason and had quite a laugh over the 20 minutes it took us to get to our next destination as they tried to plead with me to go back and get him. Once at the Landmark (our final destination for the evening), all was sorted out and we consumed food once again. That night Mason and I went back to Robbie’s to sleep on some comfortable bedding and around 5am we finally fell asleep. Too much fun for night.

Saturday: We slept in pretty late Saturday and awoke to a winter wonderland. Well not really, but there was a good bit of ice and snow outside at the time. We met the rest of the crew at Pike’s for some breakfast/lunch and just to kinda sit back and reflect on what was going to happen that day. It was decided that we would go see Finding Neverland, but it didn’t start for an hour, so we went over to Manifest to do some CD shopping and to kill time. The opinion on the movie was kinda mixed, but I really liked it and thought it was interesting. It seems that the guys who cleaned the bar of all the Jack Daniels the night before fell asleep during the movie, and since it did move at a pretty slow pace, I can understand their disinterest. The movie was followed by a trip back to JD’s where we killed some time by watching the Spike Jones DVD and just trying not to fall asleep. This was followed by a trip to the Penguin for some good southern food in an unpleasantly smoky environment. I apparently ate way too much because for the rest of the night I was uncomfortably full and didn’t feel like doing anything. We did however make it to a party and hang around with a bunch of people I didn’t know. Everyone was friendly and the band playing was OK, but the scene just wasn’t what I was into that night, and I wasn’t disappointed when we split kinda early. Mason and I once again headed back to Robbie’s for showers and a nice rest.

Sunday: The last day of this fun-filled weekend was a pretty lazy one. Everyone met at JD’s and went over to Bojangles for some breakfast before saying our goodbyes and hitting the road. I then lead Mason and Michael to their desired Interstates, and headed back home to Raleigh. The ride home was pretty boring and I was tinkering on the edge of sleep, but a pit stop or two and some loud music got me home in one piece. Once home, Leigh was frantically trying to use the last part of the weekend to clean our house, which had gotten pretty dirty, and I tried to pitch in and help her finish things up. A little bit of school work, email checking, and SU work later, I made my way to bed and was grateful have had an awesome weekend, to be home with my wife and to get a good night’s rest.

Thanks to everyone involved for coming into town and for all the good times. (4:09pm)

I forgot to mention that I was going out of town this weekend (actually since Thursday), but since a lot of of the people who would be looking for me are here with me, I didn't think that is was worth mentioning. It has been a nice crazy weekend so far, but I feel bad for Leigh who wasn't able to come along and is stuck at home in the snow/ice. Holy crap today is a crazy day. At work I have to do another serious round of testing for a system integration, at home I have to clean up some things, pay a bunch of bills, and pack things for the weekend, for school I have to write a "Action Learning Journal" and a Case Study before tomorrow, at my other work I have to write interview questions for DFA 1979, review a CD, reply to over 200 emails, setup a merchant account, and setup a press campaign, etc, etc. And to keep me sane, I have to run 4-5 miles and jam to some music.

All that in one day. I already have the coffe IV in and the Dove's Last Broadcast on repeat. (11:14am)

I interviewed Death From Above 1979 last week. Cool band. I am also supposed to interview …Trail of Dead Thursday morning sometime. It sounds like I am really into goth or something from the names of those two bands. They are rock and roll mom, not evil devil stuff, promise.

Cold, cold, cold, it is cold.

One of my classes this semester is actually pretty cool. The case studies are about things like Yahoo and Google and we talk a lot about how the web is transforming business. And actually, other than the fact that it is a lot of work, my Thursday class is rad as well. The case studies in there are Google, IBM, etc and the class has a focus on nanotechnology and how companies are dealing with it and incorporating it. May not seem relevant to companies like Google, but they are actually looking to incorporate nano-circuitry in their hardware appliances. I have to do a case in that class on Digital Angel. Have you ever heard of it?

Michael and Ryan are coming into town at the end of the week (well by in town I mean Asheville, where I will also be heading Thursday). It will be really good to hang out with those two for the weekend as well as Deuce and the Charlotte gang (Robbie you in?) and I get the bonus of seeing Grant because he is going to go to the show as well. Killer dude! Go buy a Dell. (5:23pm)

Unlike Michael, I don't have any big decisions to make about what to do tonight and this weekend. I will be working for the bank, working for SU, and working for NCSU in between all the ice and snow that we are suppose to get.

However, what I really wanted this post to be about is how grateful I am to have people like my Dad who I can count on. He drove up to Raleigh today to pick up my wrecked car for me because my Homeowner's Association was threatening to tow it. He is going to take care of either getting it fixed to sell, or finding someone to buy it, and I can't thank him enough for handling it for me. Some of my friends know how big a deal it is to me to be able to feel like you can count on someone, and I get that straight from my Dad. He always taught me to follow through with things if and when you say you are going to do them, and to be there for people so they can rely on you. I appreciate him instilling that in me. (3:05pm)

Thursday - 01.20.05

Do you want to know why snow sucks Robbie and Amy? Because thanks to Mr. Snow (not the Informer...) I did not get home until almost 11pm last night. Since I live 15-20mins away from work and I left work at around 6:40pm, I would say that pretty much sucked. Snow makes people drive crazy, and crazy driving people means that every single road in Raleigh, whether it be the major interstate (which was eventually shut down because of all the wrecks) or the small back roads, were all bumper to bumper parking lots. We eventually had to stop and get gas because I was going to run out and we found the one food place that was open. Right after we ordered, the manager said they were going to have to shut it down because they were about to run out of food.

So, while I think the nice fluffy stuff is pretty, I have absolutely no use for it in my town. I like going to snow in cities where people are used to driving in it, but I don't want to see it here. (7:25am)

Well I tried to change the mood around here a bit. It is snowing outside and has been for a couple hours, so I think Robozo should be a little more wintery.

Yesterday my old manager came by the office and packed up all her stuff. She has been on leave since last August and finally announced that she would not be returning. It was really sad because I like this woman a lot and she was the best manager I have ever had. She always went out of her way to do what she could for me, and was all around a super lady. Yesterday was the first time I had seen her in months and it was really sad to think that it would be the last. Her name is Gay, and I think the thing I remember most is going to a meeting in Charlotte or Sacramento or somewhere and she introducing herself by saying, "Hi, I'm Gay." After a few weird looks, she said, "My name is Gay .....". Classic. (12:35pm)
