Has anyone used one of those Slingboxes? It sounds pretty cool and would be good for watching things I have recorded when out of town, or really even watching shows I have reocrded on the DVR in one room, on my PC in another room. I still don't really understand how it works and if the video quality and speed are good and fast enough to make this worth it. Would have really been handy when I was in India and we got one TV station in English. (2:45pm)

This technology for washers and dryers sends auto-updates to your PC, cell phone, etc letting you know when your laundry is done, letting you change the settings, etc. While the benefit tthis would add is minimal, it is cool that this is just one more step towards all devices being wired. I want to order groceries from my PC and have them ready for me at the drive-thru grocery store, I want my laundry to load itself and determine how long it needs to wash and dry, I want my robo-vac to clean my house automatically, etc, etc. I am ready for machines to take care of my life (and ultimately rule it). (7:37am)

Saturday - 07.22.06

I have been doing a pretty good job of running lately - I have been doing around 4 or 5 miles 3 days a week for the last couple weeks and today I ran this route. I thought it was further than 5 miles, but looks like I need to plan a new route if I want something longer. Now that we are moving, our new house is 9 miles from my work. Ideally I will be able to run home from work and bike to and from work some as the weather cools off. Biking would be no problem, but running would be a challenge at this point.

Lot's of house work this weekend, but no moving end yet because they are still working on our kitchen. Suck, but at least we are getting the house all setup so moving in will be reasonably smooth. House party at the end of the summer. (9:32pm)

I think there should be some way to post to a blog by calling a number and recording a voice message that then gets translated into text and automatically put online. Michael, get to work on that for me, would you?

The point is I think of all these things during the day/night/whatever to post and then when I come sit here, I can't remember anything. So I end up saying stupid stuff like - I think we might move in this weekend...finally!

Oh, and I got a haircut today. (9:30pm)

Monday - 07.10.06

I figured it was time to break the silence. The big news is out...I"m pregnant. Well not really, but wouldn't that be nuts!!

Really I have just been busy with working on the new house and trying to keep all the other people in line that we are paying to do things. it amazes me how crappy people are about doing things whent hey say they will, you really have to bug them constantly and realize things will never be done as well as you want them to be.

Random thoughts:
I have really wanted a tattoo for a long time, but have not gotten one because of my subconscious fear of comitting to one thing for the rest of my life. I can't stand the thought of having to do, see, or be branded with any one thing every day for the rest of my life (except being married of course, because I could never find anyone as perfect for me as Leigh) and that has kept me from doing it. However, the time is coming when I get over myself and finally committ to it. Sounds silly, but is actually a huge deal with me for some reason.

Do you see the World Cup? While France certainly took it to Italy the whole game and clearly should have won, of course what everyone is talking about is Zidane and that insane headbut. What was he thinking? That is one way to go down in the history books. At least it was an impressive headbut though and not a little wimpy push - he really went for it.

I now have a new manager at work (7th one in 2 years) and am working in a new group. Same basic job functions, but I will be doing more project management and process improvement stuff than I was. Blah, blah, blah, another day in the Corporate Banking world. (12:14pm)

Saturday - 06.17.06

I am currently in Aruba with Leigh at the start of a nice week long vacation. We are hoping that after a couple of days we will be able to stop thinking about all the craziness we have going on at home and just relax, we will see. We are well on our way with Pizaa Bob's for dinner (sounds silly, but has the best pizza I have ever had anywhere) and a couple Amstel Brights.

It is cool being in a country to loves soccer during the world cup. Trent, Bernard and I have been heading to Trent's during lunch to catch as much of the noon games as we could, but as soon as we got here it is obvious that everyone is nuts about soccer. The hotel is even having special viewings of all the games with drink specials during play time. Should be a fun soccer-filled week. (9:13pm)

I haven't been posting much, but then again all I have been doing is painting for the last 3 weeks and I'd imagine you would get tired of hearing about it. I do want to send an incredible thanks to Robbie, Amy, Jeremy, and all my family that has come to help. We are getting there slowly but surely and without all the help I have had, I think I would have given up and paid someone an insane amount of money to take care of it all. IT is pretty daunting and even with all the weekends of work, we still only have paint on the walls of two rooms, and even that is just the first coat. I don't know what we are going to do about moving, I don't see being ready on the 1st, but I don't think too many of my friends or family are going to be around on the 8th to help. (2:33pm)

Thursday - 06.08.06

People here in Raleigh, NC are going ape shit about the local hockey team, The Hurricanes, being in the Stanley Cup. What's weird is that normally you don't hear much about them, but now all a sudden everyone is a huge fan. The radio changed their name to 96.1 "The Cup", they constantly talk about them, and everywhere you go you see the "Caniacs" with their 14 flags on their cars. Those freaking flags...while some more modest people onyl have 1, most cars have 3 (the true badge of fandom). I thought I had seen the best when I saw a car with 5 the other day, but last night on my way home I saw a truck that had built a special rack on top of their tailgate cover to hold flags - guess how many he had? Twelve of the freaking things! You can't tell me that isn't a little overboard.

While I enjoy playing hockey, I never got into watching it, and all the Stanley Cup means to me is I have to leave work before 6pm because the arena is right beside my office - if I leave later, I sit in traffic for an hour trying to get home. I am much more interested in the other cup starting tomorrow, the World Cup! Let me know if you want to join a thing where you pick which teams will win each game - I am sure there is going to be some kind of friendly wager on it. (11:54am)

I am trying to update some things around here. I think I am also starting to yearn for a new layout. Seeing as how I always have friends who makes cool layouts for me, it may be a while. Regardless, I will try and keep the images fresh.

I also need a good way to display pictures. I started putting some in Flckr, but I would rather have my own gallery system since Flickr is blocked at a lot of work sites (like mine). Any suggestions?

I am going to take off early this afternoon and go prep the house for painting. That way when Leigh gets off work tonight we can order some pizza and try to start painting everything. I think that is all I will be talking about for the next 3 weeks. Paint! (12:32pm)

Thursday - 06.01.06

I'm back and I suppose I should start posting here again. The India trip was pretty amazing, and I am glad I made a seperate blog to chronicle it.

I have been having some weird dreams since I got back. I had been thinking a lot about my shoes and where all my current pair of shoes had gone. I was thinking I should write inside them on the insert or something the place they had seen and then put them in the closet until I go somewhere cool again. Seems weird, I know. But anyway, that wasn't the dream. The dream was that I was riding on the back of a motorcycle and I lost one of my shoes. I was realy bumbed because these were my magic shoes that had been all over the world and I lost one. I woke up sad, then relieved to know it was a dream and my shoes were safe.

I had another dream last night with one of the guys I met in India in it. He was giving me some food or something and I was scared to eat it because I didn't know where it came from. Weird stuff.

This weekend we are going to start getting our paint on at our new house. We have a ton to do before we move in and will no doubt be working non-stop until we move on July 1st hopefully. Busy days ahead. (4:49pm)

The past 48 hours have been a whirlwind of experiences, but I am now safe and sound in my rather plush hotel room (hardwood foors, slate bathroom, etc) in India. I plan to setup a seperate blog that some of the people from work can read because I don't really want them here, so that should be online by the end of the weekend.

It smells like dust here.

In light of all the hubub about immigrants protesting, I think it is worth noting that strikes only work when EVERYONE does it. It doesn't do any good for immigrants to go on strike if there are another 5 immigrants waiting behind him for his job. I am not saying I feel one way or another about the actual issue, I'm just saying that the strike probably isn't going to be very effective. It seems like an uphill battle to argue for the rights of ceratin people when they are not citizens of this country and thus don't have the rights provided by it (other than basic human rights of course). OK, maybe I am revealing some feelings about the issue. (3:26pm)

I had a crazy goose almost walk into the side of my car on the way to work this morning. I don't know what it's deal was, but it waited until I was right at it (driving about 45mph) and then all a sudden came running out into the road at my car. My cat like driving skills enabled me to avoid it, this making it an "attempted suicide" instead of an actual suicide. (3:22pm)

This story has a really catchy headline and then some serious science behind it. I can't even beging to understand what they are talking about, but it sounds amazing. (2:22pm)

Since I kept telling everyone to come to the show, I figured I owe it to you to tell you how it was. Basically....good, but not amazing. Ambulette was good - sounded a lot like Denali but less sinister, Ours was ok - but I was outside during most of their set, and Dredg was very good - but not at their best.

I should be leaving Charlotte here in a bit to drive back to Raleigh. I don't know what the plan is for this weekend, but I imagine we need to start packing some things and maybe moving some boxes to storage to get ready for the big move that should be happening early June. New house + being in India for 2+ weeks = craziness. Then again, Leigh and I have never done anything slowly -> married, moved to Raleigh, and graduated from college all in the same month, etc, etc. (1:49pm)

I rushed back to my hotel tonight to see Lost, only to find that it was one of those 'recap' episodes that ABC has been doing a lot lately. Let's hope the season ends with some revelations.

Speaking of hotel rooms, I never sleep well in one. Well, it isn't that I actually don't sleep well, more like i have ahard time going to sleep - fall asleep at 2am, get up at 6am just doesn't equal much rest.

I hate trying to get through emails and do normal daily SU tasks on a laptop in a hotel. (10:20pm)

Well we did a bunch of back and forth on the house today/tonight and ultimately accepted their final counter-offer. So assuming things go right with the inspection, etc, this house is ours. Both a relief and a scary time.

I like this guy's landing pictures a lot. His site is going around the web for the garage pictures, which are cool to,but something about those landing pictures really interest me. (10:49pm)

I will be in Charlotte Wednesday through Friday afternoon. It would be cool to see you if you live there.

Leigh and I found a house we are seriously considering buying. It is a bit older than what we were looking for, but nothing is 'wrong' with it, and it comes with 1.25 acres of land, which is impossible for being in the middle of North Raleigh. We are going back to look at it again tomorrow and make a decision I guess. (10:33pm)

I think is my host wasn't so checp, I would jump ship. Man, these problems suck!!

Whose going with me to Dredg and Ambulette at Tremont on Thursday? (12:08pm)

Thursday - 04.20.06

Well hopefully you noticed my site has been having some serious issues. My host switched to a new server and apparently ran into some major problems. It looks like most things are back online now, but the comments aren't working (not that you were commenting anyway) and I don't know if it is something I need to try and fix or just wait for the hosting issues to play out first.

Regardless, it looks like I am going to be working on a new site for my friend Scott this weekend. Nothing complicated and definitely something with WordPress, but an upgrade for him. I relaly like that I can easily integrate a Flickr badge into a site and then people who aren't web savy can easily have pictures on their blog (ie. my mom - no offense mom). Technology is neat, especially when it is simple. (10:38pm)

One of the things I like about my job is the flexibility with my schedule. I can work at home when I want (like I am right now), I can come in late if needed, stay late if needed, leave for a long lunch, etc. My management knows I work more than 40 hours a weekk anyway so they are flexible about when and where exactly I am. Pretty cool and makes things a lot less routine (which I hate). (10:37pm)

My web host is moving servers, so the site may go down for a little bit as that gets worked out. Just hold tight.

So what is some good new music faithful readers? I havent' gotten any new CDs in a while and am looking for something new to get really into.

Seems like the iPod has been around forever, but really just 5 years. This video is probably making the rounds, but check out Steve Jobs introducing the very first iPod. I doubt even Jobs new how big this was going to be. (2:36pm)

Monday - 04.17.06

Leigh and I headed home for Easter and spent the weekend with family. We had a nice time with all parties involved and it was great to get home for a bit. The only bad part was I had to go BACK to Charlotte today for a meetings, so that is about 11 hours of driving in 3 days. Not horrible, but not fun.

well as of this weekend, it is official. Silent Uproar Records will be releasignt he debut album from Raleigh's own The Capulets, with possibly more recordings to follow. I really love the band and they are hands down the best local band. It is nice to have local talent in the SUR roster.

Looks like Leigh and I might go to the beach for a day this weekend if the weather holds up. Anyone want to go? Trent, you and Erin in town? Jeremy, wanna come up this weekend? Amy, Robbie? Hey, I'm trying here... (9:30pm)

Friday - 04.14.06

I have been having trouble getting up in the morning, and beyond the usual, I don't sleep well so I am tired, I noticed there was something else going on.

Apparently, lately I am dreaming pretty well in the morning when my alarm goes off. As a kid I could always be in the middle of a dream, wake up, and then lay back down, concentrate, and fall back into the same dream. Seems weird (or at least it does to me, maybe this is common?). Well lately when the alarm goes off in the morning and I am in the middle of a dream, I sorta wake up and then a character in my dream always tells me to just ignore it and hit snooze. This morning I suddenly became conscious of this and was able to just ignore the little guy and go ahead and get up. Who is this guy? Is he my subconscious? and why does he want me to keep sleeping?

I recently read a book where the more the guy slept, the more his subconscious was able to take over his life. This was illustrated through a really complex story and a lot of symbolism, but the general idea was there. Sorta like in Fight Club - maybe when I am sleeping, I am really out there all Bradd Pitt like kicking ass? Probably not. (10:16am)

Robbie beat me to posting about this, but Google released Google calendar today and I really dig it. I have been looking for a good web based calendar and had found one called 30 Boxes, but the Google calendar works great and looks pretty clean as well. I imagine they are going to bring in ads at some point and hopefully it won't get too nasty, but right now I am loading it up with my stuff. I would like to see integration into the Google start page (speaking of which, anyone have some good plug-ins for this? jeremy, I know you had a media player and other cool things in yours) and maybe a hard link so you could email it to people. (4:53pm)

Wednesday - 04.12.06

I wanted to go see this soccer game here in town, but it sold out the dame day tickets went on sale and I was too late. Speaking of soccer, I think Trent (and maybe Bernard) and I are going to find a local league and start playing. I have been itching to play soccer again since college but just never wanted to join a team solo. Hopefully we will find somewhere cool to play and get things going.

My friend Grant is recording a new album. He does everything, guitars, vocals, drums, etc and then is recording and mixing it all himself too. It sounds pretty good and now that he got rid of the old drum machine he had been using since high school, the drums sound much much better. Keep it up Grant.

I have to get buys ripping CDs to MP3 so I can load up a new iPod when I travel. I haven't ripped but about 25 of my 1500+ CDs, so I have some work to do. (7:17am)

I have bought quite a few prints from Tiny Showcase because I really like them and they are cheap. But the question now is what do I do with them? Framing gets expensive, even though they are small, and I am not really sure how to display them. Ideas? (4:55pm)

Well I didn't get everything on the list done, but did get most of it out of the way and also managed to show our house to a lady that seemed really interested. You never can tell because people always fake it, but she seemed like she may be a winner.

I got my shots last week to prepare me for travel to India, well the first round anyway. I got six different vaccine shots and two oral ones to take. Luckily, none of them made me sick. This trip is becoming very real all of a sudden. (10:31am)

I have to go get shots today so I can travel to India. The things I know of are Hepititas, Tetnis, Measels, Flu maybe? Fun, fun. (7:10am)
