Personally, the theory that Paul McCartney was replaced by an impostor at some point in the Beatles career is new to me. Apparently is an an old theory and this guy went to a lot of trouble to try and prove it with photo comparison. Convinced?

I love Chipotle and they love showing you how happy their animals are. You know, the ones we eat.
Joking aside, I think their marketing is really smart and they make some mean tacos.

It seems weird to me that you can be fined for not using gas but driving on the roads. I don't understand how motor fuel tax is "required". I mean I pay less tax than someone driving a Hummer, but I use the same amount of road that the dollars supposedly pay to repair. I don't get it.

Have you seen the Dr. Pepper Band in a Bubble thing? I know you have at least seen the commercials. Well originally I was pretty turned off by the whole idea because 1. Cartel sucks and 2. it is a rip off of something the Australian band Regurgitator did back a couple years ago and 3. I read an article about what drove this whole thing is Dr. Pepper wanting to do a big advertisement and trying to make a show out of it.
Well I was somewhat happy to see that it was at least not a complete rip-off as the company behind the bubble concept has put together both events.

Some great Soviet Movie Posters. I found this in my browser, not sure where the link came from.

I think anyone who still smokes, despite the fact that they know it is bad for them, has made the personal choice that it is something they want to do, and no magic article or pleading from a friend is going to win them over. However, this chart is a pretty clever (and accurate?) way of showing what would happened if you stop smoking right now.

I am intrigued by the concept of Pay Jr, especially the services for kids "Over 13". Some would argue that teaching kids early on to use Credit Cards is a bad idea; however, unlike a credit card where you are spending money you don't have, the pre-paid card is more like a debit card where you are spending money you already earned. The reason I like this idea? Because kids can't buy CDs from us online without using a Visa or Mastercard. These cards would allow them to purchase our records and not have to borrow a card from their parents. The whole part about paying your kids allowance via a pre-paid card? Not so sold on that part yet.

Thanks to Google Reader, I read a ton of articles all day about various things. Since I never seem to have much to post here, I thought I would start sharing some of the things I read and find interesting. Some of you may like it, some won't (sorta like that bright green font), but we will try it for a while and see how things go.

I have been reading a lot about Green buildings and homes and found this article about the top green skyscrapers in the world. I think it is great that companies are investing money into building more sustainable buildings and as an added bonus, the design of these buildings is pretty amazing as well.

Giving college kids Google based email accounts is a brilliant idea from Google. Think about it - you go to college, get a new email address from the University and then it is no good once you leave because it gets shut down (at least at the schools I went to). This way the student gets a permanent email they can keep and the school doesn't have to manage it all.

A Compact Flash card with built in wireless?? Brilliant. I would never buy a Wi-Fi enabled digital camera unless all the other specs were up to par and it didn't cost more, but I'd definitely buy a media card that makes any camera I use it in Wi-Fi enabled.

Until this article, I didn't realize Dow Jones was owned by one family. I knew it was a profit making company, but assumed it was either public or owned by some large corporation or equity group. Nope, one family (who just happens to be looking to sell it for $5 billion to FOX) owns it all.

Note to self: If I ever find myself living in Finland, do not speed unless I have a very low salary. Otherwise I could end up with a $74,000 speeding ticket.

Every time I go to the grocery store and buy hand soap, Leigh always tells me to look for ones that don't have a certain active ingredient. I never really knew why until now. Apparently the ingredient that makes these things anti-bacterial is also causing some bacteria to mutate and become super-resistant. This is bad news, not only for your dirty hands but also for other more serious issues. Good old soap and water is the best solution apparently.

How many times have you thought about what it would be like to get stuck on a rollercoaster or chair lift? Looks like some people found out.
I think it would have been fun actually.

Anyone who has talked to me about dieting and weight loss knows that I am not of fan of diet pills and lose weight fast schemes. It just seems lazy to me and never is a realistic long-term solution.
So when I saw this new diet pill (and the article titled "Jelly in the Belly", my first thought was that the scientists must have something better to spend their time on. However, the whole thing is a pretty interesting concept. Unlike most diet pills that are basically speed and get you all fidgety, or something that bonds to fat and makes you have to go to the bathroom any time you eat, this one is like eating a bunch of Jell-O, only it is condensed down into a pill that later blows up to full size in your belly. I still think it is bad idea to hinge your weight loss on a pill rather than just making yourself exercise and eat better, but you gotta hand it to those crazy scientist for finding creative new ways to make billions of dollars off of overweight people.

This weekend was one of those that felt both relaxing and productive at the same time. Saturday was mostly a lazy day with a movie (Ocean' 13), some TV watching, etc with a little work (mowing the grass, weed pulling), and a nice dinner with Leigh. Sunday was a lot of work around the house and on the computer, but at a pretty chill pace so it still felt like a good day. One thing that sucked was the temperature - it has been 97-98 degrees the last couple days and that combined with crazy humidity means it pretty much sucks to be outside.
blog
No big plans this weekend. We may end up going to the beach on Sunday, but I"m not sure what the whether will be like. The high today is 97 and with the humidity it feels like 102. Some would say that is good beach weather, I say it is too hot to be sitting in the sun all day.
In case you didn't notice, I changed the colors around a bit, I had gotten bored with the old ones.
That is all. Nothing much to say today really.

This story about the drummer for Ra Ra Riot is really sad. I met the guy several times and he was really nice and the band has such great promise. It's always bad hearing about things like this, but I was struck particularly hard by this incident, partly because it seems so odd and random I guess.

I had dinner with Robbie and Amy tonight along with some good conversation with Robbie into the wee hours. Despite being friends with Robbie and sharing emails with him daily, I don't get to just hang out and talk about serious stuff much anymore. Good times.
This also means I am in Charlotte, but I haven't been here in a while so it isn't too bad. What's funny is the rental car company didn't have any more small cars so they gave me this big ass Expedition to drive. I can't imagine anyone driving a car like this all the time. It is so big and seems like such an obnoxious thing to drive. I don't know, I guess different things for different people, but someone would have a hard time convincing me why a car like this is practical in any way.

What a nice three day weekend of not really doing anything. Leigh was on call as I had mentioned so we hung around the house, did a little work, and watched a lot of movies. Awesome.

Leigh and I have been married for 6 years today. It has been a pretty eventful six years with grad school, moving, new jobs and the like, but it has been a great and I couldn't be happier with Leigh. I definitely recommend newly married couples enjoying a couple years with each other before having kids. I know that isn't always possible, but I think married people need to learn to live with each other before they bring kids into the mix. With that said, I think I can speak for both Leigh and I when I say the idea of having kids isn't quite as scary as it used to be. No kids in the next year or anything, but it isn't all that far off.

I just got the new Avett Brothers album finally and I must say that after holding it in my hands - I am really impressed with how the album art turned out. Good job Robbie, the foil lettering and trim looks great.
On the same note, I have been a armchair Avett Brothers fan for a while now. I saw them a couple time early on as the band took shape and have tried to catch them again in recent years, but their increased popularity means the shows around here sell out fast. I figured what better time then now to state how amazing I think they are and how Scott and Seth Avett have always amazed me by not only being so talented, but also being such nice people and so hard working. The band plays all over the country constantly and consistently makes great music - I can only hope they continue to become more and more popular (as their recent performance on Conan O'Brien hopefully proved). So if you haven't checked out the Avett Brothers before, please do...and maybe one day Silent Uproar Records will actually get that Nemo CD out there for the world to hear.

Lot's of post lately....
I have a 3-day weekend this weekend, but Leigh is on call so we can't go out of town (like to the beach) or stray too far from the house. What are some suggestions for something we can do this weekend? Sure there is housework to be done, but I don't want to spend the whole weekend working.
