Let's hope this guy was on drugs when he chopped up his friend who ODed and put him in a barrel. I know that is a gory topic, but the insaneness of this baffles me. (1:11pm)

I think I remember Ronnie being a Rangers fan and not a Celtics fan, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention that the MLS All-star team beat the Celtics the other night. Not to say that US soccer teams are great compared to those in the rest of the world, but our MLS all-star team has quite a winning streak and it is good to see them pull it off again this year. (9:52pm)

Another week, another post.

I spent the last week doing some massive landscaping in our yard - pulling weeds, digging up bushes and chopping down small trees, and then buying, loading, unloading, and spreading about seventy five 20lb bags of mulch. I still have some more to do, but it's a start.

Leigh was in DC last week for a conference and so I found myself feeling rather weird with her not around. I did manage to go to bed at a decent time most nights (which was a surprise), but also found that I ate out most nights (despite the fact that I am the one who cooks every night when she is in town), I found myself motivated to get a lot done around the house, and I oddly didn't want to do much on Friday and Saturday night despite being "free" to be out late, etc. I think if I wasn't married, I would pretty much be a hermit and stay at home most of the time or maybe hang out with close friends, but not really go out much. It's the whole introvert thing - being around a lot of people is energy draining for me, and to recharge I need to be by myself or with a small group of close people. I read some book on the whole introvert vs. extrovert being married dilemma. Pretty interesting.

So, Leigh is now back and things feel normal once again. This weekend I hope to see a movie, do a nice 10 mile run, and catch up on some SU work. Next week I will be in Charlotte for a couple days and then Leigh and I are going to San Francisco for me to run a marathon and meet Dean Karnazes, and for us both to spend some time hanging out in the city, at the beach, etc. Should be fun. (4:38pm)

I went to court this morning to defend myself on a speeding ticket I got back in May. I got it while traveling home after working in Virginia for a couple days. I had been driving for about 2 hours and stuck behind a truck going around 45mph on back country roads when I got the chance to pass. I passed and was a little aggressive, speeding up faster than I needed to. Once I got back in my lane, a cop came around the corner and clocked me going 82 in a 55. Tough ticket.

So in court this morning the DA was going to take my license for a period of time and lay some pretty heavy points on my license. I pleaded for a Prayer for Judgement and the judge was going to give it to me, but require me to do some community service as well. Somehow I was able to talk my way out of this (thanks in part to some nice words from the officer who gave me the ticket: lesson is always be nice to the cop when he pulls you over) and walked away with a $100 ticket and nothing else as long as I keep my record clean.

I feel pretty fortunate for being able to get out of the whole thing and hopefully it was successful in teaching me to be more careful when driving. I don't really speed much over 5-10 mph over the limit, but I do seem to find myself in situations where I am speeding randomly for some weird reason and end up getting pulled. Anyway, I am glad it is over - sitting in court and having to listen through trials for spousal abuse, drug trafficking, drunken driving, and other charges does not make for a fun day. (3:59pm)

What a lamer - no posts for a week. It's weird - I send stuff to Twitter all time because it is so easy, but coming here and posting seems like a lot of effort in comparison. Lazy am I. Maybe I need to find a way to email / text updates to this site. That would be pretty cool.

Leigh is going to DC for a Vet conference this Friday and will be gone for about a week. I hope she has fun and I hope to get some house stuff done while she is gone to surprise her.

I feel like I have been slacking off in general lately. At work, doing things at home, etc - it's almost like I am still in vacation mode. However, I don't like staying in this state very long because I start to get bored and restless only to figure out it is because I am being lazy. This week I have been really busy at work and am trying to take that home and also be productive there too. Time for some major SU work promoting the new site, hiring new writers, cleaning up old albums, as well as other random things. I know this isn't exciting to read about, but it is what it is. I have also been looking into some kind of education, probably getting a certification or two. I'd actually love to get my Ph D. but the program I want isn't offered here in Raleigh. Plus, the teaching part seems like a royal pain in the ass. (3:29pm)

Since I have been home for nearly a week now I suppose it's high time I said hello and that I am back in Raleigh safely. Aruba was a great trip and I had a lot of fun hanging out with Leigh, Mom, Virgil, Audrey, and Mark as well as just not worrying about anything at home for a solid week. The one good thing about coming back the week of July 4th is that a lot of people are out at work so things are really slow. It just means next week will be nuts-o though.

One other great thing about today is it marks the 7 year Anniversary of my and Robbie's little site/business/dream called Silent Uproar. We started the site in college out of boredom and a desire to make something cool and it has evolved into a site and company that is well-known and respected through the NYC and LA offices of all the major record labels and resulted in me being able to see countless great shows and festivals, meet lots of amazing people in the music industry, and even talk to some of my music heroes over the years. I can't even begin to describe how much the site and the ideas behind it mean to me. There is still a lot I would like to do to truly fulfill the dream and vision I have for Silent Uproar, but so far I am pretty proud of what we have accomplished. Many thanks to Robbie for helping with the idea from the start and Michael for providing much needed inspiration and over the the last 5 years that you have been helping.

How's that for an acceptance speech?

On the eve of this 7 year Anniversary we will be launching a new version of the site tonight along with a bit of change in direction. I think this is our chance to finally gain a clear focus and increased user base and hopefully push everything SU to the next level. It will be a lot of work, but I welcome the challenge. (11:38pm)

Leigh and I are enjoying some quality time in Aruba this week. We got here yesterday and spent today lounging around - exactly what we plan to do for the next 6 days. Other than one 20+ mile run I need to do this week, it should be a pretty uneventful, relaxing trip.

Talk to you soon. (6:00pm)

Busy day today at work.

Our soccer team made it to the Championships and won the first of two games tonight, but sadly lost the second one. We placed second overall in the league, which isn't too bad for a bunch of people that just met each other 3 months ago, but still a loss. Oh, and the team that beat us was full of ex-Carolina cohorts. Damn UNC, can't stop ''em.

I also must say hats off to Trent, he definitely deserved the MVP award for our team by bringing both skills and hustle (and a little attitude). Even if he did end up with a black eye tonight. (10:16pm)

A new online community site called Music Makes Friends has launched and so far I am not impressed. For starters, the name is too long, the website is too working, and it is not immediately apparent what the site really offers. The promise of free music streams, creating your own online channel, etc is good, but so far it isn't appealing enough to really dive into it. (2:25pm)

Leigh and I went to see The Avett Brothers at the NC Museum of Art pavilion this weekend and it was a pretty amazing show. Great performance, lots of guests on stage, lots of good old songs, and a great venue and weather to see them in. I don't know what the official count was, but the show was sold out and looked to be a good 1500-2000 people. Good times. (11:21am)

I had read about Ski Dubai some time ago, but didn't realize it was already built. Amazing! Dubai is the ultimate 21st Century city of excess. I mean come on, they are building islands shaped like the world, crazy buildings that rotate, etc and so it is only fitting that they also build a massive indoor ski slope. They aren't the first place to do this by any means, but they do it with style. (11:35am)

So they caught a bunch of terrorist that were planning some attackes in the US and Britian and recently sentenced them to jail. The part that intrigues me is that the term of the sentences - 22 years, 18 years, etc. So in 18 years (or less probably) these guys will be back on the street? You know (or hope at least) that once released they will have an FBI or CIA tell for the rest of their life. So what's the point? Why not jail them for life? Do we really want them back on the street, ever? Seems weird to me. (10:02am)
