You've seen the iPhone commercial with the pilot who supposedly used the phone to check the weather and then reroute the flight, right? Well someone tried it and the pilot laid the smack down.

I don't normally post videos, but this blender is pretty crazy

I like that this band's website is completely confusing and starts you in the middle of the page.

It is raining today, which is a nice change since we are in a major drought situation right now. We just seeded our lawn on Monday so it is perfect timing.

Here is another link that I forgot yesterday: Charge You iPod with an Onion - Holly crap. Who figured stuff like this out?

I ran 30 miles last week and my legs are feeing it this week as I try and keep running some, but also not push it too much. I signed up for a 1,000 mile challenge at the beginning of the year and then forgot about it, so I had some really slow months (30 miles in July). Now I am trying to make it up and I have over 250 miles to run before the end of the year, so it is going to be some tough weeks!

Here are some links I found interesting:

Did you know that Fuel Cell Cars already exist. I knew they were coming, but I didn't know they were this close.

It's great that some guy accidentally discovered that ridges cut into a rode can create a tune when driven over, but even better is that the government let him do it.

I am really interested in this Dymo Disc Painter. Seems like the perfect solution for short-run CD printing.

New Music Ideas gives a great run-down of all the new music "tools" popping up. It's good to read some analysis on these tools as well as get introduced to some that I never heard of.

Make your own (sorta) iPod Boom Box. Pretty cool although I am sure it sounds crappy.

I think I have come to realize that I need to redesign this site so that it is easier for me to post things. Basically the same thing that everyone else wants to do: create a site where I can post random entries, updates from Twitter, Flickr photos, links to Google Reader items I mark, etc all in one main blog. It's interesting to me how this desire has developed based on how I now interact with the Internet. Unfortunately I don't have the programming skills (nor care to take the time to learn them) to do something really creative with the display of this information. So look for some kind of update soon although it might just be the shuffling of some data.

There also isn't a lot going on in life outside the norm. We work (increasingly I work from home), I run a lot, we play with our dog, we go eat and get coffee, and now and then I got to Charlotte or Wilmington for work. I guess the biggest change recently is just that it got cold and it gets dark so early now and that makes trying to run outside crappy. I did run the Raleigh Half Marathon this past weekend and achieved a personal record of 1 hour and 36 minutes, or about 7:25 per mile. It certainly hurt when I was done. We also got a visit from Leigh's Mom and grandmother this past weekend, which was a nice treat.

Outside of those things, I am just trying to stay engaged in the beard contest, and am waiting for a lot of uncertainty with my job to work itself out. Hopefully it won't be as long before I post again, but please do look at the Twitter feed, as it gets updated multiple times daily. (4:09pm)

Today is the Birthday of two of my best friends, Jeremy and Amy. I don't see either of them as often as I would like to, but appreciate their friendship and am proud to say Jeremy and I have been friends since I was in middle school and my brother was stealing his GI Joes. Go JOE!

I'm back from my little e-break. Not sure where I went, or why, but I'm back. I ran a half marathon this weekend and it went OK. I was going into it planning to run slow and relaxed, but after half way I couldn't hold back anymore and went ahead and ran hard. Sometimes I think it would be nice to run something like that slow and not feel the need to push myself.

This week is sure to be busy with a trip to Wilmington, then Charlotte, and then Friday Leigh and I head to the beach for my cousin's wedding and a long weekend. Should be fun/busy. Here are some links since I don't seem to post often enough:

Race Lift > As scary and (hopefully) fake as this is, I am sure it isn't that far off from being a reality.

Schwarzenegger Hates Kangaroos > I never knew that California had banned Kangaroo letter, which is a pretty big deal for soccer shoes. Now the LA Galaxy can get their kangaroo on as well.

Pepsi 1 - Coke 0 > Taking the debate of Coke vs Pepsi to the street.

Amazon Music Downloads > I tried this out the other week and have to admit it was pretty painless. DRM free is good stuff although I can't see using anything other than my iPod anytime soon.

Buy the Robosaurus > Ryan I expect you to be at this auction and at least bid a dollar for the giant car eating robo dinosaur.

How can you randomly decide as a country to change the time by 30 minutes? I mean I know we invented the whole daylight savings time, which I guess is the same sort of thing, but changing time permanently by 30 minutes? Crazy. (1:52pm)

This is old news now, but did you see the Naval base shaped like a swastika? It's sorta odd that it was built this way, but given that Hitler stole the common symbol, it seems even weirder that we are going to spend $600k to "mask" the shape of the building. (1:11pm)

Hey Padilla, can I request a poem about long work days?

As I said I would be, I am in Charlotte the rest of this week. I am already feeling the strain of working downtown (lots of suits, have to be on best behavior, have to dress nicer, have to talk to everyone and pretend I'm smart, lunches with bosses, etc) and trying to figure out what to do tonight. I am thinking about heading out for a run, but am pretty soar from our soccer game last night (Won 6-0, and I scored) for some reason. The funny thing about those soccer games is they have turned out to be one of the highlights of my week - it is so fun to go out and run around and try and get better each week playing. Exercise combined with a fun team sport (and winning) is good stuff.

Wait, where was I? Oh yeah, tonight...still don't know what I am going to do, but hopefully while here I am able to hook up with some friends for a meal or two as well as maybe a movie or something. Hear that Charlotte friends? I am asking you out. (5:54pm)

Eureka: Does anyone watch Eureka? Been really solid for 2 seasons now. Very nerd though - aka Leigh doesn't like it. Watch it.

MRI: I went and got an MRI this morning for my hand. For some reason they put me into the machine head first - this means I had to go all the way in the tube. If you have never gotten or seen an MRI machine, it is basically a big tube that they side you into on a tray. The problem is the tube is solid white and so after about 45 minutes of laying in there surrounded on all sides with white plastic that is about 6" from you face, you start to get disoriented. They should paint the inside of the tube with a mural so you can get some sense of space because what ends up happening is you have to close your eyes or you start to feel like you are floating around in space. It doesn't help that you have to keep completely still or they have to start over AND the machine is really loud when working. Overall, not a fun way to spend an hour and $1,000.

Work: I am heading to Charlotte this Weds-Fri. It's been about 3 weeks since I last went so I am not dreading it too bad.

Weekend: Leigh and I got quite a bit done this weekend and I still feel like we relaxed a fair amount, watched plenty of soccer, and got in a long run. The perfect weekend combination. (3:17pm)

Today someone at work was telling me that don't envy my job because I have to see all angles of a situation and work to come up with a solution that makes everyone happy. That is true, and it does suck sometimes having to always be on everyone's side, but on the other hand I have a lot influence in the way things get done and decisions that gets made - so the quote that popped in my head for some reason was, "with great power comes great responsibility." There's your random thought for the day.

I went to the Dr. this morning to get an X-ray of my hand because it has been swollen and sore since my soccer game last week. During the game I either jabbed it into someone or had it stepped on or something, but the result is a torn ligament, a MRI appointment to see if I need surgery, and a hand brace. Lame. (5:17pm)
